ABOUT

Homescreen is a survey type interface that gathers Unicode language data on a user-chosen target language through interactive, friendly workflows. As the user progresses, they will explore several levels, each centering around different themes and CLDR datatypes that they will discover through micro-surveys.

Homescreen is a Stanford SILICON project.

I am a rising junior majoring in Computer Science with a focus on computer systems. While studying my parent's native language of Cantonese, I've experienced firsthand the difficulties of using online translation platforms and language models that are often inaccurate. This has sparked my interest in both understanding and improving digital resources for languages. I'm excited to join the team in this opportunity to improve accessibility and inclusivity.

I am a senior at Stanford studying Symbolic Systems, East Asian Studies, and Computer Science. I first became interested in language through studying Mandarin Chinese; seeing the differences in using Chinese versus English online showed me how central language is to the digital experience. With SILICON I've gotten to work on tools to introduce more languages to the online world, improving digital accessibility and inclusion.

I am an incoming sophomore planning to major in Computer Science. Attending a high school for Native Hawaiians gave me the privilege of learning the Hawaiian language. However, it remains unfamiliar to most and is rarely integrated into digital spaces. Therefore, I am eager to contribute to this organization's mission of promoting and supporting digitally disadvantaged languages.
